Impact Protocol: Impact analysis and management for banks

This guidance document provides a step-by-step overview of how to analyse and manage bank portfolio impacts as per UNEP FI’s holistic impact approach and in line with the requirements of the Principles for Responsible Banking. The protocol is complemented by the ‘Investment Portfolio Impact Analysis Tool’, which together form a toolkit for impact management. The 'Investment Portfolio Impact Analysis Tool’ can facilitate a comprehensive impact assessment of financial portfolios through data-driven analysis, enabling strategic decision-making and target-setting. A set of in-built impact mappings is then combined with this data to help users identify the most significant impact areas of the portfolio and to reflect on their current impact performance, thus setting the basis for strategy development and target-setting. The Tool is designed for signatories to the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) and enables them to meet their requirements under Principle 2 on impact analysis.
