Climate Solutions Investing in Review: An Analysis of Key Issues and Recommendations for an Investment Framework

Many asset owners have made broad commitments to climate investing that include aspirations to decarbonize key sectors of the economy and to accelerate the development and deployment of the technologies and sequestration assets to make this possible. This acceleration is typically referred to as climate solutions investing. Investing into solutions that have the greatest chance of realizing the goals of the Paris Agreement requires a different set of tools and assessment methods from other aspects of climate investing. This report is the first step toward developing a climate solutions investing framework as part of the climate solutions initiative at the GIIN. The framework will empower asset owners to select investment strategies that will maximize the contribution of the capital they deploy towards achieving a net zero economy.
